Damn this House

Well due to a number of retarded set backs I have to say I don't think we are getting that house. Who goes to buy a product and every time you get close to buying it goes up in price?

First it was 169k, then the Mayor bought the model we were looking at. Then to build a new one it was 174K, now they cant build the same house again without changing the outside of it. So the changed model is now 183k.

I personally don't think the house is worth 183k. I wont pay it.

Time to look for a new house the heart break is over.

Our Poor Abused Shower

or Wife 2, shower 0

Last night while I was over at James’ house for game night, the phone rings. Which through me off since last I had heard he had cancelled his service. Anyhow… for once it was for me. Thinking my wife was calling to tell me some crushing (or super good) bit of news from DJ. Nope, I couldn’t get that lucky. She called to let me know she broke the nob that you turnsthe water on with in the shower. I was a wee bit mad (understatement), but what could I do about it right then? Anyhow I went on with playing D&D and tried to forget about the whole thing until I got home.

Once home I went up and looked at the damage. By this time I was well over being mad about it, there really was no point in being upset about. The damage was all to a sleeve of plastic that is part of the nob. It broke and no longer grips the… well what ever its supposed to grip to turn the water on and off.

Anyway since there really isn’t much story here other then to whine about something else… I will tell a related story.

A few years back we are going to take a trip to San Antonio. Our flight was at some ungodly hour, and we both got up at the same time. She went to take a shower, I went down stairs to eat and sneak a nap in. So I am eating and watching TV, and I can hear the shower running. About 10 – 15 minutes into my wifes shower I hear this huge crash, like she had just dropped a brick in the shower.

I thought “maybe I should go see what they was” and I muted the TV. Well I could still hear her moving around so I didn’t think she was hurt. I admit I was an ass for not running to me wifes aid right then. A few minutes later the water turns off and I go up stairs.

By the look on my wifes face I know SOMETHING happened, or SOMETHING is really wrong. She tells me she broke the shower. I go and look and the soap dish is laying in the tub ripped from the wall.

Ever seen anyone throw a five gallon bucket of gas on an open flame? Yup that’s sort of how I felt. I don’t remember how I acted but I bet I was a complete jerk about it. Anyhow I asked my wife how this happened, or how she did this or WTF happened… something like that and the story was… “I was shaving my legs standing up and I was resting my foot on it.” But what I heard was “I was standing on it”.

Anyhow, I didn’t fly off the handle or yell, I was sort of beyold yelling at that point. I went on to that mode that my father and I have where we should be upset but instead we just give up, do what needs to be done and get it over with. I duct taped some plastic over the big gapping hole in the wall and we put the soap dish in the sink. I resigned myself to knowing that I would have something to fix when we returned from vacation, and my wife learned to never step on soup dishes to shave her legs.

Hmm I am sure that she is going to kill me for telling that story...

The House Saga Continues.

This whole house thing is like an emotional rollercoaster. One minute there is hope that we will get what we want. The next our hope and dreams are dashed. Argh! I hate this stuff.

Ok so here is what’s happened over the last few days.

-The house we were looking at for 169,900 was sold. And it wasn’t sold to just anyone, it was sold to the Mayor of Dayton. If I didn’t think I liked her before, with all her retarded hats, I REALLY don’t like her now. How ever our Sales person is great and he is going to go to bat for us with the owner of the company to try to let us build a new one of those at the same price in a lot of our choosing. This would be the best thing that could happen. In fact its better then getting that other house all together. Lets just hope that he can go to bat for us and get us that price. He is also looking in to a lot we really like. He agrees it’s a great lot and is calling to make sure its not already sold. We also found out they do not require a construction loan. This is good news since we will not be over stretched if they can do the house at 169,900. If they can’t give us that price we will probably walk away. Oh and the bank just told us that we are approved for the full 169,900, so that’s a good thing.

-Just heard back from DJ our sales guy. Lots of bad news. The owner won’t move at all on the price. Construction materials have gone up so they say they cant honor the Cityrama price any longer. Whats funny is the $169,900 wasn’t the Cityrama price either, it was listed at less in the booklet they handed out. Tsk Tsk. Also we found out they the lot we want has been taken off the market by the city. Not because its sold but because the guy living next door claims to own 8 feet of the lot. Now I don’t know if that means his property line is moved over 8 more feet then it currently shows on the deeds or if there are just eight random feet that he thinks he own. Any how instead of looking into is at all the City just said SCREW IT and gave up. Effectively giving him not only those 8 feet but the whole lot. The last bit of crushing news is that IF the historical something something council that trys to keep the neighborhood historical looking has its way there wont be any more of these houses built down there. They don’t want houses looking the same. They just made one of the new houses going up down there loose the balcony.

-Hmm this is the rollercoaster part of the deal… we are back up again, sorta. DJ called back again… and he said that they have come up with some new designs that will make the Historical people happy and will also keep the general look of the house while not changing the inside at all. This is great news, just minutes before we got that call were very close to giving up. We need to get a lot yet, but that shouldn’t be to hard as long as people are not claiming 8 feet here and there. Still for as good as that news is, it doesn’t change the fact that they still want 5k more then we have been approved for.

And that brings us current. DJ wants to show me the new designs on Saturday. I wont be able to meet him on Saturday so maybe he will fax them to me.

Oh and depending on how all this goes, meaning if we end up walking away because we are tired of getting repeatedly shafted, I might have a good story to tip the Dayton Daily News about. It turns out that only did the Mayor buy our house, but she also condemned the two buildings to the left of it. Would they have been condemned if I would have bought them? Probably not, at least not as fast as they were. And I would love to know what price she paid for it. I bet there was a rather nice price break given to the Mayor in exchange for “Development Considerations” for JZ Homes, who has a lot of commercial development going on in Dayton.

On top of all of that, I am sick and tired of people acting like I am fucking retarded for wanting to move into this house into this area. Last night I got grief from someone that I think lives in an apartment. Maybe they should speak up when they own the roof over their head. Sure its in Dayton city limits, and its on the wrong side of the river some would say. But it’s a historical district, its very nice and its growing in value all the time. The freaking lot is $1, you can not get cheaper land then that, and if you do, big deal you saved a dollar! With all the jacking around I am getting over this whole house deal, hearing bull shit over where the house is at makes me wish I could just carry a ball bat around with me so I could Al Capone anyone that gives me lip about it.

To buy or not to buy... That is the question!

Tension around here is running high as we try to figure out if we should go for this house or not. Lots of pros and cons being thrown around and weighed out. At this point it looks like its about even odds whether or not we will go for it.

Most of the cons are cosmetic, but a few are more serious. The way you pull in to the garage is sort of funky. Also the neighborhood is not what I thought I would ever live in. Then the last thing, the monthly payment is more then we really want to pay per month. We can do it, but its more then we want to.

On the other side the house is great. I really like it. The house itself, looking at just the building, floor plan, looks, size and potential.. I love it. Its just what I want, and its a good deal. I know we won't find anything like this for this much anywhere else, and we wont be able to build anything like this for less or even the same amount either. But is all of that enough?

Tomorrow I am going to set up another walk through on the house and talk to the police about crime in that area.

The Duel is Done! And guess who won!?!

Well it wasn't me.

Instead retyping the whole account... Instead I am just going to copy in what I told a friend of mine about it.

MrRuben51: It ended up that alot of what I thought I knew about his character was misdirection.
MrRuben51: He ended up having true faith, but he didn't have any crazy ST made up powers.
MrRuben51: He had the Sulubri powers, the warrior caste version.
MrRuben51: There is a fairly cool story behind it all, but I was taken completely by surprise by it.
MrRuben51: Anyhow I went into shadow form just before the fight started.
MrRuben51: What I should have done was grow some arms of the abyss and go into shadow form prior to the fight.
MrRuben51: Anyhow since were both allowed to spent exp prior to the match, something neither of us had done in awhile..
MrRuben51: he got a cool combo power out of the high clans book.
MrRuben51: That made him shine like the sun...
MrRuben51: Anyhow that, plus me being a Lasombra and only having 2 fortitude made for some nasty agg damage.
MrRuben51: I took 3 agg the first round.
MrRuben51: I tried to dominate him, and botched my roll.
MrRuben51: He then tried to do some true faith casting out on me and botched.
MrRuben51: Next round he got to go first again, and fried me with his new sun power.
MrRuben51: It was supposed to be to the death... But a powerful Nos was there to keep that from happening.
MrRuben51: So I was saved from being ashed... but I think death would have been better then the social beating I am going to take later for this failure.
Nephilpal: Sorry about the sunlight shiny combo power... I wrote that one, too.
MrRuben51: I KNOW you did :)
MrRuben51: hee hee
Nephilpal: :-(
MrRuben51: Ahh I am not worried about it.
MrRuben51: This is the perfect excuse for me to... (inaudible comments)
Nephilpal: *grin* win/win, then.

Anyhow... It was a good fight and I am just glad it is over. I am sure if I had rolled better and fought smarter I could have won it. Oh well.

Oh and I was told that if I didn't post something good about this, then my blog would be hacked to correct anything that didn't jive with that funny thing called "The Truth". I hope this is good enough for you Vigo!

Moving on up! Well at least trying to.

Currently my wife and I are looking for a new house. Well not so much looking for the house, as we know what we want. Its more like we are looking for a way to get this house.

Floor Plans
Sketch of the front of the house

The house is in a historical district that is in the midst of renovation. What this really means is that there are a lot of old houses around that need work. Although there are a lot of new houses out there too, so its a good mix of older houses and newer houses built to fit into a historical district.

This week we are meeting with the builders and with some banks to get financing. Its the start of an adventure that will be wonderful and horrid all at once.

And you cant tell it from the floor plans but it has a full unfinished basement. I should come up with a clever name for this area besides "the basement" since it will be my domain. MINE ALL MINE!!! I am thinking of having a area for my computer(s), a gaming area with room for all my books and a cool gaming table of some sort. Maybe a table with a grid built into it, maybe a grid on a wet/dry board... I can dream. Also I want to have a home theater room down there also. Heck I figure if I am there along enough I could have all sorts of nifty things.
